Recall Update.

At McCoy, Hiestand & Smith we value the health and safety of everyone in our community. Sometimes regardless of how careful we are the products we buy aren’t as safe as we had hoped.

Products are recalled every day and it’s important to stay up to date on those recalls in order to keep you and your loved ones safe. Below are a few recent recalls that may affect you.

 

L.L.Bean Recalls Knives with Sheaths Due To Laceration HazardL.L. Bean Knife Recall

L.L.Bean has issued a recall on its Allagash Fixed Blade Hunting Knife with Sheath due to a laceration hazard. As stated in the recall, “The knife blade can cut through the protective leather sheath, posing a laceration hazard.” Between August 2017 and February 2018, the knives were exclusively sold at L.L.Bean stores nationwide, L.L.Bean catalogs and online at llbean.com. There have been three reports of the knife coming through the sheath, resulting in minor cuts to consumers.

BRP All Terrain Recall

BRP All-Terrain Vehicles Recalled Over Crash Hazard

BRP has issued a recall on its 2017 Can-Am Outlander and Outlander Max All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) due to a crash hazard. As the recall states, “The dynamic power steering shaft can break and result in a loss of steering control, posing a crash hazard to consumers.” About 6,500 of the ATVs are included in the recall and were sold at Can-Am dealers across the United States and in Canada from June 2016 through December 2017. There have been 13 reports of broken steering shafts worldwide, but no injuries have been reported.

3M recalls Scotch thermal laminators3M Thermal Laminator

3M Company is recalling about 395,000 Scotch thermal laminators sold in the U.S. and Canada. The plastic enclosure can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

EXO Bars Recalled by Austin Company for Undeclared Sulfites

Aspire Food Group of Austin, Texas, has issued a recall on a number of its EXO Blueberry Vanilla, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and Apple Cinnamon bars due to undeclared sulfites. Individuals with a severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume these products, says the company. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled food bars. As the recall states, the bars were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.

Recall Issued for Power Bank Charging Stations 

A recall has been issued on Re-fuel power bank charging stations due to fire and burn hazards. As stated in the recall, “When the unit is being charged, it can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.” About 6,000 of the charging stations were manufactured in China and imported by Mizco International Inc., of Avenel, N.J to be exclusively sold at The Container Store locations nationwide. There have been five reports of power bank charging stations overheating and melting, but no injuries have been reported.

Primo Recalls Beverage Dispensers For Burn HazardPrimo Beverage Dispenser

Primo has issued a recall on its Primo hTrio Multi-purpose beverage dispensers due to a burn hazard. As the recall states, “Hot water can drip from the machine when it is used in high altitude areas over 6,000 feet in elevation, posing a burn hazard to users.” About 11,000 of the beverage dispensers were sold at Sam’s Club and online at Amazon.com, and Wayfair.com from January 2017 through December 2017. There have been three reports of hot water leaking from the product being used in high altitude areas, including one burn injury to a customer’s hand.

Advocare recalls Muscle Strength and Nighttime Recovery

AdvoCare International is recalling two lots of Muscle Strength and four lots of Nighttime Recovery dietary supplements.  The products may contain milk, an allergen not declared on the label.

Spirit Halloween recalls Nickelodeon PAW PATROL Marshall Hat with flashlightPaw Patrol Costume

Spirit Halloween of is recalling about 21,500 Nickelodeon PAW PATROL Deluxe Marshall Hats with flashlight sold in the U.S. and Canada. The batteries in the flashlight can overheat, causing the flashlight to become hot, posing burn and fire hazards.

Tesla Model S 2012-16

Tesla recalls model year 2012-2016 Tesla Model S vehicles

Tesla is recalling 70,421 model years 2012-2016 Tesla Model S vehicles equipped with Bosch steering racks. The aluminum bolts that attach the power steering gear assist motor to the gear housing may corrode and fracture causing a reduction or complete loss of power steering assist. Loss of power steering assist would require a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may increase the risk of a crash.

FDA Recalls All Kratom Food Products for Salmonella Risk

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration ordered the mandatory recall of kratom products due to a risk of salmonella. The administration recently ordered the recall of all food products containing powdered kratom manufactured, processed, packed, or held by Triangle Pharmanaturals LLC. The recall was initiated after several of the products were found to contain salmonella. This is the first time that the FDA has issued a mandatory recall order to protect Americans from contaminated food products.
