Products are recalled every day and it’s important to stay up to date on those recalls in order to keep you and your loved ones safe. Below are a few recent recalls that may affect you.
Honey Smacks Cereal Recalled Due to Potential Salmonella
A recall has been issued on 15.3 oz. and 23 oz. packages of Kellogg’s® Honey Smacks® cereal due to the potential presence of Salmonella. The recall states that no other Kellogg products have been affected. An investigation was launched after the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported a number of illnesses in connection with the cereal. The cereal was distributed across the United States, in addition to limited distribution in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, the Caribbean, Guam, Tahiti and Saipan.
Lorex Recalls Video Monitors For Burn Hazard Amidst 328 Incident Reports
Lorex has issued a recall on three models of video monitors due to a burn hazard. The recall applies to Lorex video monitors models LW2751, LW2752 and LW2962H which were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and online at www.lorextechnology.com and other websites from April 2014 through March 2017. “The video monitor’s batteries can overheat, swell and expand and cause the battery cover to open or come off and expose hot batteries, posing a burn hazard to consumers,” states the recall. There have been 328 incident reports in connection with the recall, but no injuries have been reported.
GE Lighting Recalls LED Tube Lamps for Shock and Electrocution Hazards
GE Lighting has issued a recall on Cool White Universal T8/T12 LED tube lamps due to electric shock and electrocution hazards. As the recall states, “The pins on one end of the lamp can be
energized during installation/removal.” About 46,000 packages of two tube lamps are included in the recall. The lamps were sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores nationwide and Lowes.com from approximately November 2017 through April 2018. There have not been any incidents or injuries reported in connection with the recall.
Pfizer Issues Nationwide Recall for Naxolone
A voluntary nationwide recall notice has been issued for two lots of naloxone, a commonly used antidote for opiod overdoses. The batches “may be contaminated with ‘embedded and loose particulate matter’ on the syringe plunger” which could cause a number adverse side effects. According to Pfizer, no harmful events have been reported at this time.
Apotex Corp. Recalls Nasal Spray for Glass Particles
A recall has been issued on one lot of Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray due to the potential presence of small glass particles. The recall applies to Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray, USP, 50 mcg per spray, 120 Metered Sprays. The recall states, “There is a potential for patients to be exposed to the glass particles and mechanical irritation cannot be ruled out. Local trauma to the nasal mucosa might occur with use of the defective product.” According to Apotex Corp., there have not been any reports of adverse events in connection with the recall.
IKEA Recalls Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard
IKEA has issued a recall on their SLADDA bicycles due to a fall hazard posed to riders. The official recall states that the bicycle belt can break, leading to the fall hazard. About 4,900 of the bicycles were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online at www.ikea-usa.com from August 2016 through January 2018. There have not been any incidents reported in the U.S. in connection with the recall.
Spam Recalled After Multiple Consumer Injuries by Metal in Food
Nearly a quarter-million pounds of Spam and another meat product have been recalled after reports of several people suffering oral injuries because of metal present in the food. Included in the recall are nearly 4,000 cases of Spam Classic sold throughout the United States and more than 2,600 cases of Black Label Luncheon Loaf sold in Guam. Federal officials say that the recall was initiated after several people were injured by metal objects in the food. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) was notified about the consumer complaints on Friday.
