Kentucky law (MVRA) requires $10,000 in medical/wage loss coverage for yourself regardless of fault (PIP); $25,000 in liability coverage; and $25,000 in uninsured motorist coverage for individuals. For just slightly more, you can get added PIP benefits of $30,000; 50,000 liability coverage; $50,000 in uninsured coverage and $50,000 in under-insured coverage (coverage for when the person at fault doesn’t have enough insurance to cover your injuries). For pennies more you can get even more coverage. So, when your agent tells you that you have “full” coverage, demand they give you quotes for uninsured, under-insured and limits greater than $25,000. Also, don’t ever sign a waiver of PIP or uninsured coverage. You could pay dearly for it if you are in a crash!
