Thousands of talcum powder lawsuits have been filed against Johnson & Johnson for failing to warn consumers of the risk of developing cancer from using their talcum-based powders. Several of those suits have resulted in large monetary awards, including some as high as $4.69 billion.
“I had the good fortune to meet the lawyers handling these cases and the evidence they have amassed is compelling,” said attorney, Chad McCoy. “The great thing about the 7th amendment is the right to have these cases and the evidence heard by a jury. So far juries have found that J&J has not behaved properly, and people are dying from a very specific type of cancer linked to baby powder.”
However, Johnson & Johnson continues to fight the claims, including a suit requiring the company to put a cancer warning on their Baby Powder products. This article shows some of the trial games being played.
Juries across the United States have ruled to hold Johnson & Johnson accountable for the cancers their powders have caused but only time will tell what further actions will be taken.
Why Are People Filing Suit Against Johnson & Johnson?
Research has shown links between the talc used in Baby Powder and the development of ovarian cancer. Some researchers proposed that talc particles used in the genital region could migrate to the ovaries and lead to an inflammatory response that might predispose cancer. However, that’s not the biggest issue with the product, there is also a possibility that the powders may be contaminated with asbestos.
A cancer diagnosis can result in medical expenses, physical pain, emotional trauma, lost wages, loss of relationships, and even funeral expenses. While no amount of money can make those struggles disappear, financial compensation may take care of some of the monetary losses.
